Lucia's Nutty Snow Drops
1 cup (2 sticks) softened butter
1/2 cup confectioners sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups All Purpose flour
¾ Cups finely Chopped Pecans, Walnuts, or Almonds
small bowl filled with 2 cups confectioners sugar, 1 tsp. Cinnamon & 1 tsp. nutmeg
Set oven to 350
With mixer on med. speed, cream butter. Add sugar, mix on low till well incorporated. Add salt and flour, mix on low till combined. Add nuts, combine. Chill 15 min. in frig.
Roll dough into walnut sized balls.
Cook on ungreased cookie sheet (can line with parchment paper) about 15 min., until lightly browned on bottom.
Cool 5 min., (will still be very warm) gentle roll each cookie in bowl of sugar until well coated. Handle cookies gently as they are very delicate. Place on cooling rack to cool completely.
You are sending these cookies to a FEMALE or MALE soldier in Afganastan that is in the medical unit on the front line. They have been through hell - and want very little. I am asking you to put a bit of youself into this project. Look at this box as an expression of thanks. Children's art work, letters of thanks, other food, anything that you can package that will travel well in the heat. It takes 4 days to get there ... Please decorate the outside of the box. Draw stars, hearts, flags, write THANK YOU ... if you are broke, tell them that, say that you still found a way to send them this box. Also, here is a list of commonly asked for things on the front line ... you don't have to, but you can include any of these things. Anything is welcome - even a family photo.
